On March 09, 2018, a suicide attacker detonated an explosive device close to the Masallae-i-Mazari site in Dasht-e-Barchi during the 23rd-anniversary commemoration of the death of Hazara leader Abdul Ali Mazari. The attack caused a at least 10 deaths and 22 injuries among the predominantly Hazara civilian attendees. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant-Khorasan Province (ISIL-KP) has claimed responsibility for the incident.
