On September 27, 2005, Ashraf Ramazan, a politician and businessman of Hazara ethnicity, was assassinated along with his bodyguard in Mazar-e-Sharif. Ramazan was an elected member of Afghanistan's first parliament following the fall of the Taliban regime and the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Ramazan secured a position in the newly formed legislative body, representing a significant step in Afghanistan's transition to a democratic system. The attack, which claimed the lives of both Ramazan and his bodyguard, occurred in Mazar-e-Sharif, a major city in northern Afghanistan. No individual or group claimed responsibility for the killings.
