On March 8, 2018, Khost Protection Forces conducted a search operation at a madrassa in Khost City, including the accommodation area where students were staying. During the raid, they set fire to at least six motorcycles parked outside and detained eight students. Four students were released the following day, while the remaining four were transferred to a detention facility run by the National Directorate of Security in Khost City. As of December 31, 2018, the status of these four students remained unknown.
