On the evening of October 21, 2017, a suicide bomber detonated his explosive device inside Imam Zaman Mosque located in Pol-e-Khoshk, Dasht-e-Barchi. The mosque was filled with hundreds of people gathered for prayers at the time of the attack. The assailant first threw two hand grenades among the worshippers before detonating his explosive vest. The incident resulted in the deaths of 55-69 civilians and left 55 others injured. Dasht-e-Barchi, a Hazara neighborhood situated in the western part of Kabul, has been frequently targeted by similar attacks. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant-Khorasan Province (ISIL-KP) claimed responsibility for the attack.
