On September 9, 2017, a group of anti-government elements deliberately killed three civilian men in Aghro area of Chaparhar district. The attackers intentionally slit the throat of a deminer who worked for AREA, an Afghan non-governmental humanitarian demining organization. They also shot dead two other civilian men. This brutal attack specifically targeted humanitarian workers engaged in life-saving mine clearance activities.
