Incident description

On April 19, 2022, a series of three explosions occurred at educational institutions in the Dasht-e-Barchi area of Kabul's western suburbs. The explosions resulted in more than 27 fatalities and 30 injuries. The initial blast took place at the Mamtaz Educational Center and was caused by a hand grenade thrown by an individual identified by students as Qari. Multiple people sustained critical injuries. This was followed by a suicide attack at the nearby Abdurahim Shahid High School. A remote-controlled explosive device (IED) detonated among individuals assembled for rescue efforts at the high school. The victims were all civilians, predominantly students.
